View Full Version : MOB goalie troubles?

Saints 10 Fort Mac 1.......Is Fort Mac going to have goalie troubles this year with both goalies from last year gone? Or do they just have a young defence. I guess normally their goalies don't get a lot of shots because their defence is usually so good, so maybe defence is the problem. Of course it's still early, and last nites game was just their rookies....

Bernier's gone because he was a 20 year old, but what happened to Reid then?
He is still listed on the player roster:confused:

10-1? Ouch... It's just the pre-season though.

Sounds like lots of lopsided scores in the Rookie evaluation games.
Traders 7 Pontiacs 1
Traders 7 Cru 2

Their must have been at least 35+ penalties in these games.
Who ever can stay out of the box and has a decent PP will have alot of early success until everyone adapts to the new rules and enforcement!

The MOB went down the highway last weekend with just the rookies, the vets stayed home, therefore Reid was not a part of the weekends games.

We're pretty low on vets this year
Allen, Helfrich, Klassen, Manah will be relied on heavyly this year
Don't think Gialet(87) and Laforge(88) are capable off being the top defenseman pair yet
Having an enforcer in Upshall seems to be a waste of a 20 year old's spot
Perry, Roberts and Wells saw limited action last year
And we're gonna have to wait and see how Reid plays....hope he's not another Yesmaniski
I predict it's gonna be a long year near the bottom for the Mob :( , unless G.T. makes some drastic changes

That is an amazing observation Cypher - I say that only because the unabated optomism expressed on that other site which shall remain unnamed (oswsru for short) in a thread called predictions had the MOB taking the north. I admit to not being in a position to argue with them but your assessment is replete with specifics so I will take you at your word. By that I mean that GT will be taking drastic action because I don't really thing the MOB will be at the bottom.......the CRU has already picked out curtains.

MOB will not have trouble at the forward position, I don't think. I don't know what rookies were cut after the weekend, but there are some good young players in that mix. Helfrik, Allen and Klassen will lead the league in best line, I believe. If he keeps them together, look out. Defensively we will be weak in the beginning, with only 2 vets in Gailet and LaForge back there are a lot of rookies on our defensive end. But guaranteed, Gord will be looking for some vet Dmen. In goal, I don't know. If Reid plays like he can consistently, then MOB will be fine. I don't think he had the strongest camp, yet in the Blue and Gold game he stood on his head. That is the Reid we need at the beginning of the year, for sure, as our Dmen will struggle. I totally disagree with your reference to Upshall. He is not just a fighter, he plays with his heart, hits like a train, and will have a very good season if put with the right people. In the blue gold he had 4 points, I believe, played on a line with 2 rookies. He did the crashing and banging and did a great job in my opinion. I left the rink thinking how much Upshall had improved in his speed. Overall I think the MOB will be in a little caca at the start of the season, but Gord will do his tweaking. Look for MOB to finish 3rd in the north, but once again make it to the final where anything can happen.

Im thinking that the mob will be in 3rd or 4th place in the North this season, but I really doubt that they will be close to making it to the final. I know its early but I think Ft.Mac lost to many player to contend this year.

No doubt Allen, Helfrich and Klassen will be leading the team in points...
The main problem is how are the MOB gonna stay out of the box with these new rules (what are all the new rules anyways?).
Gord's strategy of defense first hockey will be tuff to come by if its more wide open like the play in the south last year, no clutching, grabbbing.... and having rookies on that back end makes it that much harder for me to envision how Gord's gonna pull this off
Reid is gonna be the MOB's x factor for sure....i know he trained alot this off season... couple of us played quite a bit of street hockey.....now if he can only concentrate on hockey and stay out of trouble outside of hockey
As for Upshall.. i played hockey with him before he joined the barons 2-3 years ago... he's nothing special....hard shot though.... i remember one game, i was behind the net and passed it out front to him, and he wired a slap shot and broke the goalie's collarbone, no joke...he's not that bad of a player, but there are more efficent 20 year olds out there that Gord can get
Like i said before, unless Gord makes a lot of moves here, the MOB won't be big contenders this year

The "new rules" as I was explained to by one of the refs is just the enforcing of the existing rules. Any stick use that does not involve an attempt at the puck will be called. Use of the stick away from the play, example "tapping" the opposition, using your stick to slingshot past a player, etc., will be called everywhere on the ice.
Also the clutching on the boards will be called, once the puck leaves the players stick, players must release each other or it will be interference.
The team that adapts the fastest will reap the most 5 on 3's, and most likely the win.

This will mean GP finishing last in the north, the kings of the clutch and grab.

Actually I would agree that the more successful teams in the north division (admitedly more so then the south) did in fact use the c & g last year, especially away from home. It did not surprise me when a team that clutched with the best of them in our barn would be bitching about other teams in their rink. The visiting team usually benefits from slowing the game down, taking the crowd out of the game (not a factor in the Park or at Canucks games......no crowd) and avoiding the disadvantage of bus legs. That said, I really look forward to this year with a more open style. If it is as successful as it was in the NHL it will be exciting hockey. We will soon see which teams and which coaches are able to adapt the quickest. Prior performance is irrelevant as these guys will have to learn to win in what ever environment they are in. May the most highly evolved team win!

Oh don't worry boyz, the MOB are awash in cash and Gordies been shoppin down east for some talent.

Some teams grow it, others buy it......;)
