Harbinson Takes Over In Penticton
The Penticton Valley First Vees Hockey Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Fred Harbinson as its new Vice President of Hockey Operations and Head Coach. The 35-year old Calgary native comes to Penticton from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota where he was the team’s Assistant Coach the past five years.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to come to Penticton and coach one of the premier teams in Junior “A” Hockey. I feel fortunate to join such an outstanding league and quality organization that is rich in tradition like the Penticton Vees. I look forward to working alongside a very well respected hockey person like Scott Carter and continue the winning tradition that Bruno (Campese) has established over the last three seasons,” states Harbinson.
Vees President/General Manager Scott Carter says, “I’m very pleased that Fred has agreed to join us and become a part of our team. I see a lot of similarities between him and Bruno in that they both have a hunger and desire to be successful and see Penticton as an opportunity to eventually move forward as a head coach at an even higher level. Many coaches at this level would love his college job and the higher compensation he currently receives. Coming here and taking a pay cut shows what kind of commitment, courage and character Fred has and that’s what our organization is all about.”
“There were some great applicants and it took a long time to make the right choice. I was looking for a person I felt could really help assist and develop our players in reaching their goals. Since taking over operations of the team, we have had a few players move on to the WHL and that is a great opportunity for them, however, for the most part, many of our guys have leaned toward taking the scholarship route and I feel Fred’s experience and knowledge of that system will greatly benefit our organization,” adds Carter.
Harbinson will be cleaning things up back in St. Cloud and fulfilling some obligations there before coming to Penticton on July 24th when the team will host a ‘Meet & Greet the Coach’ event at Parkers Motors, that day beginning at Noon.
